Debate Recap: “Le logement, un droit bientôt inaccessible ?”

Last night in Namur, we had an insightful debate on the pressing issue of housing affordability: “Le logement, un droit bientôt inaccessible ? Achat, construction, rénovation et location dans une même spirale. Quelles solutions et dans quel timing ?”

The debate, organized by Embuild Wallonie , Federia, UWA, UPSI/BVS, CF by Fednot and moderated by Christophe Deborsu brought together experts and political leaders from Défi, Ecolo, Les Engagés, MR, PS, and PTB.

Key Points Discussed:

🏠 Rising Costs: The cost of housing—whether buying, building, renovating, or renting—is skyrocketing.

📈 Policy Impacts: Various environmental and fiscal policies are significantly affecting housing accessibility.

🔍 Accessibility Challenges: Both property owners and tenants are finding it increasingly difficult to secure housing, making it an almost inaccessible right.

The debate highlighted the urgent need for effective solutions and timely actions to address this critical issue.

Solutions Discussed:

1. Innovative Financing Options: To make housing more affordable.
2. Sustainable Construction Practices: Reducing costs and environmental impact.
3. Policy Reforms: Addressing both fiscal and environmental regulations to ease the burden on housing markets.
